You can also create special days based on the preschool themes that you have planned for the week, month or year. When your kids find some activities or lessons of great interest, this is when you can insert into your curriculum planning. Instead of just studying or reading a story about camping, make it one of those special days where you can highlight the event with lessons and activities for your preschool kids.

Other Special Days

  • Picture Day- Have all kids dress their best and get their photos taken. Don't only take a conventional class photo - like lining up in rows with the teachers in the middle of the first row. Rather, take pictures of the kids in action. Perhaps, you may also consider using a Video Camera.

  • Bookworm Day- If you are wondering how to stimulate your kids to read more, just make a day and call it "Bookworm Day" and get all your children excited about reading books. Make bookworm bookmarks for them to take home.

  • Teddy Bear Day - Kids to bring their favourite Teddy or any plush toys.

  • Small Pets' Party Day - Have kids bring their little pets to school; e.g. hamsters, gerber, gecko, birds…etc If you have a few hamsters, you can prepare long tunnels with toilets rolls and have a hamster's race. Open a camping tent, and let the birds fly around inside the tent.
  • Wacky Hair Day - Tell parents about the wacky hair day and have them send their kids in with the wackiest hair do. Take photographs and have kids talk about it.

  • Soup Day - Each child brings one piece of vegetable, e.g. carrots, broccoli…etc Teachers prepare soup stock. Have kids cut vegetables into smaller pieces and then throw into the pot to boil. Then every can enjoy a hot bowl of soup. Especially fun during the cold Winter months.

  • Ice Cream Day - Buy big tubs of ice cream of different flavours. Parents to supply various toppings.

  • Pot luck Day - Parents to send a simple dish with the child and there can be a time of feasting.

  • Balloon Day - Parents are informed that every child will have to bring 2 balloons each. Provide markers for kids to draw faces or decorate the balloons. Play balloon games.

  • Hat and Caps Day-Children come to school wearing all kinds of hats and caps or have them make hats from pre-cut cardboard and scraps from your art center for decorations.

  • Bubbles DayTo make your own bubble solution, mix 1/4 cup of liquid dishwashing detergent with 1/2 cup of water. For color, add a drop of food coloring. It's good to keep the solution aside for a few days to make the bubble blowing a better experience.Pour into a shallow container and use with bubble blowers.

Another fun with bubbles is to use a straw and blow into a bucket full of the soap solution. When bubbles form, cover a piece of construction paper over it gently and enjoy the colorful bubble print art work.
